Short on time? Here’s a quick summary: Agentic browsing allows AI agents to navigate websites and take actions on a user’s behalf. For senior living operators, it adds another reason to prioritize fast, stable, accessible websites with clear community information and easy-to-use forms. The technology is still evolving, but strong SEO and website fundamentals remain a practical starting point.

If you’ve run your website through Google’s Lighthouse tools recently, you may have noticed a new category alongside Performance, Accessibility, Best Practices, and SEO: Agentic Browsing.
It’s experimental today, but its addition gives us a pretty good indication of where Google sees the web heading.
For years, websites have primarily been built for people and search engines. Now there’s another audience to consider: AI agents.
What Is Agentic Browsing?
Agentic browsing refers to an AI agent’s ability to navigate, understand, and interact with a website on a user’s behalf.
It goes a step beyond the AI search experiences we’re already seeing.
Today, someone might ask ChatGPT or Google Gemini:
“What are the best assisted living communities near Cleveland with memory care?”
AI can research the options and provide an answer.
With agentic browsing, an AI agent could take that process further by visiting websites, evaluating information, navigating pages, interacting with forms, and eventually taking action on the user’s behalf.
Google is already starting to account for this. Its experimental Agentic Browsing category within Lighthouse looks at factors that can impact an AI agent’s ability to understand and interact with a website, including accessibility, website stability, machine-readable structure, and emerging technologies.
This isn’t currently a Google search ranking factor, but marketers and website owners should pay attention to it.
What Does Agentic Browsing Have to Do With SEO and AIO?
Quite a bit.
Google’s guidance confirms that the same SEO best practices used for traditional search also apply to its AI search features, including AI Overviews and AI Mode.
A website still needs to be fast, crawlable, well-structured, authoritative, and supported by useful content. Those fundamentals aren’t changing.
What is changing is how that information is being consumed.
Search engines and AI platforms need to clearly understand who your organization is, where you’re located, what services you provide, what makes you relevant to a search, and what someone can do next.
This is where SEO and AI Search Optimization (AIO) start to overlap.
Technical SEO, structured content, schema, local search signals, website performance, and strong non-branded content all make it easier for search engines and AI platforms to understand a website.
AI search isn’t replacing SEO. It’s adding another layer to it.
Why Should Senior Living Operators Care?
Senior living has a complicated search journey.
Families don’t just search for a community by name. They’re searching for answers to specific questions:
“What are the best assisted living communities near me?”
“Which memory care communities near Cleveland have strong reviews?”
“What senior living communities offer both independent living and assisted living?”
AI is making it easier to research and compare those options without visiting dozens of websites.
Agentic browsing could eventually take that one step further, allowing an AI agent to interact directly with the websites it recommends.
That makes the structure of a senior living website increasingly important.
Community pages should clearly communicate location, care levels, amenities, differentiators, and next steps. Forms should be easy to understand and use. Content should answer the questions prospective residents and families are actually asking.
And the website itself needs to be fast, stable, accessible, and technically sound.
If Google has trouble understanding your website today, an AI agent may have the same problem.
Website Performance Still Matters
Google’s Agentic Browsing audits also reinforce something we’ve focused on at Fountain Digital for years: website performance directly impacts the digital experience.
Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) is a good example.
If buttons, forms, or other elements unexpectedly move while a page loads, it creates a poor experience for a person. It can also make it more difficult for an AI agent to reliably interact with that page.
The technical work that supports stronger senior living SEO also helps create a website that new AI technologies can understand and use more easily.
Site speed, Core Web Vitals, technical SEO, accessibility, content, and AIO are becoming more connected as search evolves.
What Should Senior Living Operators Do?
Agentic Browsing is still early. There’s no reason to overhaul your digital strategy because a new category appeared in Lighthouse.
Still, there’s plenty of reason to make sure the fundamentals are right.
Focus on a fast, technically sound website. Build clear community and service pages. Improve non-branded organic visibility. Use structured data appropriately. Keep local information accurate. Create content around the questions prospects are actually asking. Make it easy for both people and technology to understand what your communities offer.
Those are smart SEO practices today, and they also put your website in a better position as AI search continues to evolve.
A prospective resident or family member might discover a community through Google Search, Google Maps, an AI Overview, ChatGPT, Gemini, or another AI platform.
As these platforms become more capable, the websites they rely on need to keep up.
At Fountain Digital, we’re closely following how Google and AI platforms are changing senior living search. Our approach combines website performance, technical SEO, non-branded content, local search, structured data, and AI Search Optimization to help senior living operators improve visibility as search behavior evolves.
