Senior SEO Strategist
Overview
The Senior SEO Strategist is responsible for developing and overseeing SEO strategies that drive measurable results for clients. This role requires a deep understanding of on-page optimization, technical SEO, local listings, content strategy, and off-site link building, ensuring all efforts align with broader business goals. The Senior Strategist leads by example, providing guidance and mentorship to team members while ensuring deliverables are polished, data-driven, and impactful. This individual must be comfortable setting high-level strategies, managing and executing complex projects, and proactively identifying opportunities for growth in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
Responsibilities
- Leads development of SEO strategies for assigned clients, ensuring alignment with business goals and digital marketing objectives.
- Oversees and reviews work from junior team members, providing strategic guidance, quality assurance and mentorship.
- Ensures final deliverables are polished, accurate, and aligned with best practices and client needs.
- Implements SEO strategies, such as publishing SEO recommendations on client websites, building credible inbound links, mapping out 301 redirects, updating local listings and optimizing blog posts to perform in search.
- Diagnoses and solves complex technical SEO challenges using platforms like Screaming Frog, Google Search Console, SEMrush, and Moz; leverages Sheets/Excel to develop data-driven insights through pivot tables, charts and graphs.
- Provide keyword research & recommendations based on search demand metrics like monthly search volume, impressions, clicks, clickthrough rate, seasonality, and historical ranking performance.
- Leads and delivers technical SEO and page speed audits, providing clear action plans for improvement.
- Reviews performance data on a regular cadence and gleans meaningful insights to share with team and clients.
- Plays a major role in client presentations, leading SEO reporting, insights and strategic next steps.
Qualifications
- 7-10 years prior experience in SEO; agency experience highly preferred
- Bachelor’s degree
- Knowledgeable in website redesigns, content marketing and data analysis
- Experience in Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager
- Proficiency in Google Workspace tools (Gmail, Docs, Slides, Sheets)
- Ability to communicate with a variety of subject matter experts
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent ability to organize work and adhere to deadlines, including the work of junior team members
- Highly accountable and a self starter
